Visit from Peter-Rosegger Primary School in Wiesbaden

Last week, we welcomed 23 pupils from Peter-Rosegger Primary School in Wiesbaden. The Igstadt Local History and Heritage Society organised this visit as part of the AWO Rheingau-Taunus holiday programme. The excursion was led by Michael Weidenfeller, chairman of the Igstadt Local History and Heritage Society.
The children had already learnt about the many facets of clay as a raw material the previous year – during the handover of the Westerwald Clay Box by the Federal Association of Ceramic Raw Materials and Industrial Minerals.
In the first week of the holiday programme, we then showed them where the clay comes from: we took them to one of our clay pits and explained how the clay is subsequently processed in our production facilities. The children also had the chance to see our wheel loader up close. They were thrilled, asked lots of curious questions and had great fun with our clay.
We were delighted to welcome them and to be able to give them an insight into the subject of soil and extraction.
